How We Got Started

By the grace of God, my first trip to Honduras was in 1999 with a medical mission, after Hurricane Mitch had devastated the country six months before. God gripped my heart for the children of Honduras with such a burden that for the next six years I went back on annual trips with medical distribution missions. During that time I was able to observe firsthand the everyday plight of the children, the malnutrition, lack of education, and precarious health situations that arose continually in the villages.

In the spring of 2006, God gave me the opportunity to introduce the amazing concept of eradicating malnutrition through a “super cookie” (made mostly from indigenous products) that had been developed by Dr. Brenner of Pennsylvania who had previously gone to Honduras and also saw the devastating effects of malnutrition on the children of Honduras.

After taking two weeks of vacation from my job and flying to Honduras, I was able to find all of the ingredients (except the vitamin pre-mix that is made in Pennsylvania) and introduced the project to the Renacer Mission in the village of El Naranjal. From this point, God has provided people in Honduras to be able to continue this project. With the help of Keila Barahona and her husband, Mario, our Field Directors, we were able to train and hire two ladies in the village to bake and distribute the cookies to the project children five days a week. God has since grown our project to include nine projects, all in different villages. We also added Pastora “Tori” Acosta to our team as a field director.

Through the grace of God and the efforts of our Board of Directors, individuals, and churches from the USA and Honduras, we constantly work to keep the children nourished and help educate in health and hygiene. We have deworming campaigns twice a year and teach classes to the mothers on various subjects that affect their daily lives. In addition, CPH, Inc. provides basic needs such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shoes, school supplies and uniforms, which are mandatory for Honduran children to attend school. Other needs constantly arise and each time God provides a way for us to help.

We are so thankful that God has provided for us to not only nutritionally help these children but also bring in teams twice a year. We have installed concrete floors in their dwellings to ensure that they are not sleeping in the dirt, constructed pilas (bathroom/shower/washing station), and are currently building a training center where we hope to teach about agriculture and how to raise and grow their own food. We are also able to encourage these children spiritually with VBS and Bible studies through missions located in Honduras.

We invite you to join us in this endeavor in any way that God might direct. It takes the prayers and support of caring individuals to be able to fund and maintain this project. Please contact us for more information.

God bless you!
